Cradling the Moon (Blue Eveningscape Collection)
I saw a friend’s photographs of this image and knew that I needed to paint it ~ the simplified yet vibrant color palette, the time of night, even the moon all beckoned me to pull out the canvases! So, I asked my friend if I could paint Crystal Lake, in Enfield, NH - a place I had never visited, but it was drawing me to it nonetheless.
The framed oil painting is accentuated with my signature live-edge wooden frame. This dark frame was created using a Japanese technique, called Shou sugi ban, where the wood is torched in flame to acquire a darkened color, bringing out the natural grain of the wood and preserving it, without the need of a chemical stain. Artist-crafted frame is made from rescued slab wood, wood that is normally burned as sugaring wood or bonfires. Frame is finished in three coats of Vermont poly-whey varnish, a USDA certified biobased product. Framed oil painting dimensions are 18” x 20”. Hanging hardware is affixed to rear of painting. A Certificate of Authenticity is included with every original painting.
15% of my art sales are donated to wildlife and habitat conservation. See http://www.artistsforconservation.org/Katie-Roberts for specific organizations that I donate to.
