Request Options

My primary focus is in wildlife & nature art but I have done many family, pet, home and treasured object paintings...Just about anything goes! I have painted many different commissions over the years - for birthdays & anniversaries, marriage proposals, loved one's memorials and child's poems, just to name a few.  Once photos are provided (if applicable) and we've discussed the desired artwork, I can create your personalized painting.  A sketch will be sent to you before painting begins to ensure that you receive exactly what you want.  Contact me with your details (or we can explore some ideas together) and then I will do the rest!

Collecting Reference Photos & Sketching
From photos received in hand or via email/messaging, or solely from ideas we have discussed, I prepare a pencil sketch of the desired artwork and send you a copy to consider before painting. Typically, this takes 1-3 days, depending on complexity.

Painting

I begin the painting process, including any final varnishing and framing that is required. This takes anywhere from 1-2 weeks, depending on size and complexity of the design. Oversized pieces may require more time. Oil painting requests are the one exception; They require 3 months of drying time before final varnishing, in addition to the painting time itself. Keep this in mind for gift-giving!

Framing
Typically, I create a live-edge frame.  Less commonly, I will create a vintage frame from antique Vermont moulding.  For live-edge framing, this step can take as much time as the painting itself, depending on size!  An additional 1-2 days is added if Shou sugi ban, or yakisugi, is desired.  This is an ancient Japanese wood-burning technique that I use to darken or bring out the natural patterns of wood, while also preserving it.  Usually, framing is complete in 1-1.5 weeks. Oversized pieces may require more time.
