Mallard Preening
Oil painting of Framed oil painting of a mallard floating carelessly on the waters of the Ottauquechee River in Woodstock, Vermont. While running in a favorite spot, I came across this female mallard, preening as she carelessly floated in the river. As she shook her plumage this way and that, I was drawn to the complex layering of her feathers and wanted to capture that in this piece. This artwork would be perfect in the hands of a wildlife, nature, or bird lover, or just one who appreciates these brief New England scenes.
The painting is accentuated in my signature live-edge wooden frame. Painting alone measures 9" x 12". Final framed oil painting dimensions are 10 x 13”. Artist-crafted frame is made from weathered rescued slab wood, wood that is normally burned as sugaring wood or bonfires. Frame is finished in three coats of Vermont poly-whey varnish, a USDA certified biobased product. A Certificate of Authenticity is included with every original painting.
15% of my art sales are donated to wildlife and habitat conservation. See http://www.artistsforconservation.org/Katie-Roberts for specific organizations that I donate to.
